Skechers Technology Explained

Designed to improve your life by changing the way you walk, Shape Ups feature a unique soft kinetic wedge insert and dynamic rolling bottom to simulate walking barefoot on a giving surface such as sand. As we move through our lives, we typically walk on hard surfaces, which places stress on our knee joints and lower back.
People who are required to stand for their jobs feel the impact on their bodies the most and don't gain the benefits that come with all that activity.
Skechers developed Shape Ups in response to this problem, and used the sole of Shape Ups to turn hard surfaces in to comfortable ones.

The core of this technology is the dynamic rolling bottom, the soft foam insert under the heel, and the dual-density midsole.

These three elements work together to give you the feeling of walking on sand or luxurious pile carpet - regardless of the actual surface!
Walking on softer, uneven surfaces forces you to engage muscles not normally used when walking on hard ground. Not only does this strengthen your muscles, but it also increases blood flow and reduces the impact on your joints and lower back.

With the comfort of Shape Ups, you will feel your heel sink to the ground as you step, roll forward as your weight shifts to its centre, and push off with your toes. This movement will result in stronger leg, buttock, back and abdominal muscles as you stabilise your steps.

Benefits of Skechers

Walking is a form of exercise, which means it strengthens your heart, helps your lungs work more efficiently and increases your stamina. Also as a weight bearing exercise it helps strengthen your bones and muscles, and maintain joint flexibility.

Shape Ups are designed to enhance the benefits of walking by stimulating muscles not utilised with standard shoes. They also reduce the impact on joints by providing a more natural, forgiving walking surface.

Walking on a soft surface may seem awkward at first, but your body will compensate by activating muscles in your legs, buttocks, back and stomach to centre your body, resulting in improved coordination and posture, stronger muscles and increased blood flow.

How to Walk in Skechers Shape Ups

Shape Ups are not like other athletic shoes. They offer a new way to walk and exercise. As with any new exercise, start with moderation. Skechers recommend 25 to 45 minutes (based on your strength and existing exercise plan) in your first two weeks.
Increase your walking time in Shape Ups in 5 to 10 minute increments, depending on your comfort level and strength.

To achieve maximum potential in your Shape Ups, follow this step-by-step guide or watch the Skechers information video below.
1. Find your centre of balance. Shape Ups have a dynamic rolling bottom and a kinetic wedge heel insert, both of which will make you feel unstable at first. Place your feet hip distance apart, stand straight with a firm back and your shoulders back. Imagine a wire through your body to the centre of your feet.
2. Heel, roll and toe push. Step in the middle of the soft foam heel, roll forward, and push off with your toes.
3. Maintain your focus with a straight back and picture, looking ahead at what's to come, not where you have stepped.
4. Keep your centre of balance with a straight back, shoulders rolled open and knees strong, but not locked. If you feel your feet rolling in to the point where your knees are ready to knock, shift your weight to the outside edges of your Shape Ups to maintain your balance.
